Simple is beautiful - Beet Arrows
« on: August 20, 2013, 08:37:10 pm »
Finished my first set of arrows yesterday.  Eating a pickled egg and thought - Why not a beet themed arrow....

Stained with 3 coats of beet juice with steel wool in between.  Two coats of clear water based finish.  Half with self-nocks.

11/32 Douglas Fir, 45-50#.  Feeling good about the process.

I didn't enter the arrow exchange because I didn't know I could make arrows.  Who knew??  Thanks to all who posted on PA before me.  I researched most of the project here!

That color is a perfect replica of the Eastern Woodland red. Cool execution right there.

Nice looking arrows.
Did the Native Americans think about all this that much or just do it?

Cool idea, and brought back some fond memories. When I was a little kid I used to dig up beets from the vegetable garden for targets. Pulling those arrows, they would have a nice red gore that seemed to satisfy the blood lust in my savage little heart, Hah! Thanks for showing them!!!

Those are very nice, the contrast in color is great.  Those could be good Christmas arrows.
