2013 elk hunt
« on: September 08, 2013, 11:21:03 pm »
Well only 3 days into the season we got a nice five by six called in. The date was September first. This guy was screaming all the way in. I had shots at  15 yards, 20 yards but I waited. He wasn't going anywhere. I had a shot at 8 yards, that's what I wanted. I took the shot and knew his game was over. He went 200 yards and was done. My arrow split the rib in two and lodged into the opposite rib. Great penetration. I used my 60 lb black walnut longbow cane arrows and old bear two blade broad heads. My first big game kill with a bow I made. Very rewarding hunt. Also the biggest bull I've killed to date!  Second picture is my buddy who was calling for me.

Very cool! Well done to both of you.
Are you in a burn area. The trees behind you look like it.

Thanks guys. Pat yes we are in a burn area from last year. Everything else burned or is burning this year. Elk seem to like it though.  :)

Thanks for all the compliments. It was the best hunt ever. I accomplished something I have worked hard for over the last few years.
