First self bow kill
« on: October 05, 2013, 05:58:20 pm »
Hi guys ,
first self bow kill. 17 yards w my wampanog paddle bow. sharp quartering away shot while doe was walking quickly down path. I tried to stop her with a couple of blats. That didn't work so I just lead her a little and let her have it. arrow is a doug fir that I made myself.
she ran 70 yards and piled up. arrow went thru guts, liver left lung and broke the left shoulder.
600 grain arrow did a stellar job of putting meat on the table. You can tell from the smile I really like the bow as well as my trophy.
Thanks,
Greg

Thanks guys. That is one I will never forget. Neither will my friend he watched  the doe run thru a powerline right of way then watched her pile up ;). I have been practicing a lot with the bow pictured and another one. It  was a tough shot as she was almost at a trot. It all worked out and I got some meat In the freezer :) gonna have a go for a buck next week.

Tx for the kind replies guys.
My hunting buddy and I were discussing the hunt last night after an evening hunt. He was askin if I plan on killing one next year w "a rock point" LOL! So next year is to do it with  a "rock point" hafted on some nice red osier. ;)
It is quite satisfying killing game with equipment you made yourself w a scraper, hunting knife, draw knife, file, and sandpaper. Oh ya don't forget the little camp hatchet :)
