I had some of my family in WWI and WWII . My father joined for a short time and they sent him to Alaska for a short time didn't like it so he got out when he could ( dad didn't stay with one thing for too long , I don't have enough toes and fingers to count them on ) , I got out of school in 90 and started my first job , when they started sending our men over I thought about enlisting and probably should have . I have a nephew that is deployed now .
My great grandfather served in WWI , they had a hight restriction then and they said he was too short to carry a weapon so he was a photografer for the army , wish I could find some of his pics.
My grandfather on my mom's side served in WWII , he landed on the beaches and spent a few weeks in knee deep water and got trench foot , he was the only one in his unit that made the landing , he never talked about it much but he did say a time or two that when he looked out across the field he could see the enemy in their trenches.

I know it's not the same , but I have helped my community out by being a volantear fire fighter for seventeen years .

A big thanks here for all those that served and the ones serving now .
