Snaky osage tiller advice needed
« on: March 14, 2014, 09:44:43 pm »
Roughed this stave out last July and put it aside till I felt like messing with it. Well if feel like messing with it now. However I need a little advice on how to go about tillering this puppy. As character bows are something I have little experience with. It has 1 1/4" of deflex sitting right in the snaky area. Any tips on keeping the limbs even?

Ink,
I thought you had my stave there for a minute...I'm working one now that is very similar...I have floor tillered mine and plan on using a caul to straighten mine before tillering to low brace. Are you planning to tiller as is? Some heat correction would probably make it easier...

Was planning on as is. As long as I'm able to keep my eye from getting tricked. Would prefer not to apply heat to this one if possible.

Here it is on the long string, the right limbs looking a tad stiff coming out of the fade to me.

Was planning on it. Dependent on how well it bends in the rest of the limb

Okay so i had sasquatch over this morning and we brainstormed for a bit. I ended up removing some of the deflex with a little dry heat to help even up the limbs. Here is where im at right now. It's drawing to 20" on the tree right now. Let me know if you see anything that ain't bending the way it should be.

Center of the top limb looks a hair stiff...What weight do you want and where are now? If I was close I would scrape upper center and shoot it in then work to my weight JMHO...
