Bone is free from butchers and it's bombproof  for overlays :) Personally i'd choose a bit of hickory over b.walnut for overlays.
Be very careful about getting any bend in your levers as the underlay may delaminate.

Yeah, be careful the string isn't resting on a ring of early growth. BW looks great on any lighter wood, imho, but the same can be had with harder woods you can get for a few bucks as pen blanks ;)

Black locust. Black locust everywhere.
Mollegabets all day long.
Might as well make them short, save some wood to keep warm.

Started this bow a while back and have finally finished her up, thanks to everyone for the advise advise.
69"
toasted hickory with black walnut underlays and handle riser - no shelf
red mahogany stain
poly finish
jute handle wrap
18" working and 12" levers
levers are 1/8"thicker than thickness before 2nd fades
3/8" tips, to scared to go further
top limb has 1/4" set, lower has held at 0
shoots fast, little shock and quite as a bird fart.
This is my first bow that's held together and I know I can rely on it this coming season. I am super excited about finishing this one, even though there are obvious flaws on my part (like my nocks) but no issues after about 500 shots. The wealth of knowledge on this sight is priceless and moving forward I am confident that I will continue to better myself and refine my skills. thanks.
