Who first came up with snakeskin backings?
« on: July 25, 2014, 01:25:02 pm »
Does anyone know the history behind snakeskin backings?  Were natives using this as a camouflage, or is this more of a modern design?

I think they're a few native bows with snakeskin, Blackfoot tribe maybe, ( I think they put the bow inside the skin) it wasn't common though.

Snake skins make a good weather/moisture proofing for sinew backed bows. but only a few Native American bows have been found with snake skin backings.

I'm curious, I know the few real Indians I've met down here kinda, shun bows that have snake skins on them.

If you have to pull the trigger, is it really archery?

I'm sure that can vary widely from group to group.
