I have been to the site out in the hills of Utah where this can be mined. Most of what was there whae I was there was not knappable, but there is some that can be. We did not have great digging equipment when we were there so we could not dig real well for it. I could see that deeper down there was material that was better quality. Gem trails of Utah should have directions to the site.

How deep am I going to have to dig? I don't mind the work if it is worth it in the end. Digging through rock, or dirt?

I went and mowed my wifes grandparents lawns today and took this photo. This is the best looking chunk of wonderstone they have in their rock garden. It looks and feels like it would break right, but it has been there since they have lived there, and that is close to 40 years of freeze thaw. I really need to make a trip and get some.

My only reservation on taking a trip is it will be about $100 in gas, to strike out would make me a bit angry. When I do go, If I find it spalls right I will have plenty for trade.  :laugh:
