"Jackal Jack's" atlatl
« on: September 09, 2014, 12:32:41 pm »
I'm working on an atlatl set for Soy's son Jack.  I carved this out of an offcut from a stave of black walnut I harvested in Indiana a few years back.  The rest of the stave made a darn fine walnut shorty.  The effigy is supposed to be a Jackal.  However, I'm no halfeye.  It didn't quite come out like I hoped.  I still have to finish it out and make some darts yet, but you get the idea.  Thanks for looking   Josh

I think you did a great job carving that jackal's head.

Very nice, lets see the finished set. :)  As for the jackal, nothing wrong with that! 8)  A little clean up at the back of the head, and it is a beauty!  I think Jack is going to enjoy that one! ;)  Cool idea. 8) ;)

Thanks Wayne!  The rough area between the ears was supposed to resemble the Jackal's fur with it's hackles up.  My carving abilities with a pocket knife have their limits.  Lol!  Josh

Agreed!
