Osage flat bow "One Knot" w/ black snake skins
« on: September 15, 2014, 05:05:07 pm »
Hey guys, Finished up this Osage just in time for archery season. I wanted to take a new bow this year so I banged this one out pretty fast. This was the nicest osage stave I’ve ever worked with. The 20 + year old stave was very straight, had tiny bit of prop, and only one knot. I decided to name the bow One Knot”. It measures 60” grove to grove and finished 57#@27. It has about a 1 ½” reflex at rest and takes about ¾” of string follow. It took a inch of set during tillering. I’m really pleased with the way it shoots and can’t wait to take it to the stand in a few weeks. I put black snake skins on it with 8 coats of tru-oil. The tip overlays are ipe and ebony, Leather grip, and b-50 string.

Very nice!  And just my size too! I was hoping I would be the first one to post the use of black snake skins! Patrick

Real nice looking bow/ tiller! Partial to rat snake skins myself. Do you get poison ivy? I was scratching just looking at the pics that it was resting in poison ivy :D

Nice work.
Only when the last tree has died and the last river has been poisoned and the last fish has been caught will we realize we cannot eat money.

Thanks guys. Hope to see you there, Chris. Should be a good time. My buddy was helping me with the pictures, Tracy.  I yelled at him... Hey buddy you just stuck my bow in poison ivy... Lol kids. Lucky for me I've only got it once in my life... Hope it ain't two now.  The other vine in the picture is wild cucumber.

Jeb, i use a super fine point sharpie marker. Then mist it with sealer, so it doesn't smear when I put the finish on

Built to kill would have been a good name for that bow also, real solid hunting bow staightarrow.
I ain't broke but I'm badly bent.
