My second Yew ELB........

Here is my second yew self bow.
77" NtN, 30mm x 30mm Handle. Mary Rose lay out. Semi crowned back, bow would not move till I crowned the back. Much stiffer than my first stave, which is weird as there are more growth rings per inch on the 40 lb er.  :roll: Red Deer Nocks in White.
Followed the contours of the natural back as much as possible, VERY pretty bow lovely to work with. The natural back is intact except where I had the drama with the knot. Tiller is a bit stiff in the handle, as to be expected with a splice. My draw is only 27", bow comes around more at 30".
Bow is currently 60lb @ 28" AMO. I am expecting this to drop off, I will shoot the bow in tomorrow and next weekend........ Beautiful stave, this!
Photo along stave shows the set at 1.5", it comes back to 3/4" later. I am happy with this.

That's superb.  What a pretty bow!  If you trusted your splice enough, to get that proper Mary Rose shape you could get it moving quite a bit more in the middle - with a good splice you can get it coming full compass - but for a Victorian style bow that's about as sexy as they get.  Love the nocks, love the clean splice (wish I could do that!)

In the full draw picture the bow limbs look a little stiff from mid limb into the handle.

Nice one Mick, looks like the patch was a good call.
I appreciate your comments about ring count, more anecdotal evidence that ring count isn't everything.
Handsome looking bow :). Looks like she'd pull another few inches no prob'  >:D

As you say, I dont think ring count has much to do with draw weight in this case. I think it is the structure of the wood between the rings!!! Each tree is different. It is after all, a natural product and grows as it grows. Maybe where it grows makes a difference. Those two staves where very different, but still yew all the same!

Show me a nice big field, and I will show you a draw my Northumbrian ancestry would be proud of!!!! :D
 My parents where from the North East and came down under in 65................. My favourite place in England is the massive field in front of Bamburgh Castle. What a place for an Archery Tourney............... ;)

Nice vid, that bow certainly spits 'em out :) looks great with those arrows.
Glad to see I'm not the only one who gets irritated by camera auto focus refusing to recognise anything to do with a bow!
Mine will lock on to the cat's face but refuses a horn nock when it's dead centre of frame.
