Elk leg skins
« on: October 16, 2014, 06:49:49 pm »
I have recently (today) come into possession of 4 elk legs from which I have harvested the sinew.  I removed the skin from the legs and tacked them to a board.  I don't really know how to treat them, or if they are of any worth to anyone.  If you are interested, I will entertain about any offer.  Tell me what you want me to do to prepare them for you.

If these skins don't have any value, tell me, and I will just get rid of them.

They might make a cool quiver. Good luck - Bob.

It would probably only make a small quiver

One thing I have seen done with elk hocks is to make a bag. Do a google image search for elk hock bag.

Joe,  I am looking for just about anything--I can entertain just about any offer.  High on the priority list would be sinew, fletching feathers, or knapped points.  Depends a little on what people think they are worth.  I have them tacked hair-side down on a board, and I put some salt on them to discourage the flies that seemed attracted.  I don't know anything about preparing hides or tanning.  I am just trying to get them dry right now.
