What is the difference between wood and meat bandsaws?

I would like to buy a small bandsaw for deer.

The meat saw is a solid steel/aluminum or cast wheel, no rubber where the blade runs. Not good to cut meat on a wood saw, take that from me ,who tried it, very bad results.

It will grease up your saw. You'll have to completely disassemble it to get it clean.

I can echo that.......you'll be lucky if the blade even stays on, the fat slides it right off the wheels. All I did was try cutting a set of antlers off a skull. Daddy has a meat saw if I need one, but we bone out all our deer and never use the saw for them.

You also run the risk of severe food poisoning using a wood saw for meat. You can never get them really clean. And not the food poisoning that goes away in 24 hours, but the type that lands you in the hospital.

I don't plan on sawing meat any time soon, but it's good to know these things.

I believe meat saws are all stainless for easy washdown.

This is true, the motor' s on mine are even waterproof. It has actor for the grinder and one for the bandsaw. I just take mine out in the driveway and wash it inside and out then hose it off and wipe it dry. I never use the band saw part on deer. Only on the hogs we kill. Patrick

Last year I tried to saw some sausage log rolls I made.

Oh my, huge mess. Dog loved it, suasage pieces every where.

How about the other way? Is there any problem using a meat saw for wood? Just in case I run across a retiring butcher

Thanks meat saw won't work cutting wood. Trust me I tried it. Not powerful enough.

I've seen a meat saw used for cutting metal for knife blanks and trade points.
