Azincourt 2015?
« on: January 21, 2015, 08:54:54 am »
Does anyone have any news, or know what's going on with the planned Azincourt 2015 commemorative shoot planned for late July?

Is there still going to be a shoot this summer in Azincourt?

Complete pain in the ass Adam.  It's ready, and there are dates set and a schedule from Emmett now, but unless you're willing to spend a fortune on historically accurate clothing and send in photos for scrutiny you're not gonna have a chance of attending.  We're talking butted maille aventails being banned because it should be riveted type accuracy.  Can't wear cotton, cos it wasn't common enough.  Has to be wool.  Can't wear boots above the ankle as there's no artwork showing it.  Can't wear joined hose, but split hose pointed to braies is too early.

It's a pain.  And I know people are forced to pull out due to it.

Facebook only at the moment.  The websites are terrible, and quite out of date.  The latest info he released was a pdf of a schedule, but it was half a page long and didn't really offer much new.

I believe most of the ewbs are planning a trip down to the field before it all kicks off and have a shoot.  Not sure on details of that yet however.

If 5,000 armed people show up at the gates it would be a brave man to tell them all to leave because they fall beneath the dress code...

Does anyone have the name of the facebook page or group?

There was talk the alliance wanted 1000 archers on the field, to set a new GWR. Going about it this way, with period Nazis excluding people for improper kit, seems unlikely to make it happen.

It does rather sound like they may snatch a damp squib from the jaws of something amazing.

Just to give you an idea of how this is being organised....

Azincourt 2015

Azincourt Alliance Event 2015

Azincourt Alliance Events

Medievals d'Azincourt

All four are the "official" organisation Facebook groups for the event.  Pick one at random, and it will be slightly different to the next.  Expect badly broken English.  Despite it being an international event.

I have been planning to go to this since I heard about it. I'm wondering, as this goes along, if it'll be worth it. What do you think? Is EWBS sending a contingent? It'd be a hoot to shoot some arrows with you guys!

The EWBS isn't attending the tourist-laden dressing up thing I don't think (some members do re-enactment any way, so may well go) but Mark Stretton wants to do a trip over there and have a shoot on the actual field at some point near the date.  I'll ask Mark next time I see him (will be early March) and see if there are any plans.  Will let you know, as it would be ace to meet you!

Did anything happen with this? Richard Head put a video up that shows about 50 people there...

Apparently it went quite well.  They had 180 archers turn up (miles away from Chris Skinner's proposed 1000 however) and did a warbow demo, the "big shoot" and a full battle re-enactment.  I'm sure it'll be the same next year.  It's certainly got a lot of interest from those who didn't go, and The One Show are doing a short piece on it as well soon.

Don't bother going to Agincourt, head over to Calais and help repel the invasion there with your longbows.
