Yup. The only extra material was around knots, and I'm going to clean them up before I go farther. Thanks for the tips guys. I took the sides down near 1 3/4 on account of that was my narrowest point. I'll heed your advice and go for an unbacked bow and do the best I can. This is new territory for this WI. boy. Stay tuned.

That is a killer stave ya got there Puck. 1 1/2" wide is good to start with and you will prolly finish narrower. Do your part and that will make a nice bow.

Need some counseling on my stave. It's pretty narrow and not very deep on one end. I plan on backing it with rawhide. What do you guys think? Also the one big knot in the picture should I cut it out or  can you rawhide over holes? It's my first Osage so I just wanna make sure I get a bow outta her. Thanks again Danny!

Give us a ring shot from the end. Also what is most important is it deep enough in the middle for a handle area? 1" on the thin end is more than enough at the tips.

I am certainly no expert, and so other opinions are probably more valuable, but it looks to me like going around it, following the grain should make a nice snakey bit.  if it is near the center, then it may make for a center-shot bow.
