Porcelain tile point

Always wondered how well these tiles would knap, and I like it! :D This is some sharp stuff!

That looks good. I have chipped some tile, and it was fun to knapp. It's flaking characteristics are consistent through and through. I select a very hard type that is not glazed on the surface.

I am going to have to take a look next time I am in the store. I didn't know they had tiles that were not glazed. What size are the tiles?

First, nice point there and looks great!

I think we're banned from linking to anything for sale here, but I recently had my floors tiled with some Home Depot tile and it was porcelain. The stuff was so hard that we had to cut it with a saw - it wouldn't follow a wheel type tile cutter line. Anyway, there is a glaze on the tile that removes easily and it knaps well - look for "Montagna Dapple Gray Porcelain Floor and Wall Tile." It's a 6" X 24" plank tile and cost the whopping sum of $2.39 ea AND you can buy them individually. I think any color in this tile series would be the same. It is indeed porcelain and will not absorb water - so it is well vitrified in the mfg. process, which makes for good chippin'.

Interesting....I have found the darker the Porcelain the better it knaps. I also found that by throwing it in a oven for about 4 hours @400 it tends to knap a bit better. I can't figure out why as they are cooked at 2100 degrees or hotter, yet I did notice a difference....any clue as to why?? I assumed it was moisture from the back side, and removing it with heat helped. Maybe it's just in my mind? :)
