Yew bow, semi-stacked flatbow - 48#/28" 66" ntn - for snag

Here is another bow I had shooting almost a year ago, but only just got finished up. I made this bow for snag (Dave Lawson of Wilderness Custom arrows). He gifted me a nice stash of staves and so I told him I have to turn one into a bow for him.  By the way, Dave makes the finest traditional arrows I have ever seen.
This piece of yew was very straight and clean.
It is 66" from nock to nock
48#/28"
Simple finish of shellac.
Couple pieces of horn sandwiched between sapwood for the nock overlays.
Rattan handle wrap
The strike plate is piano key ivory that Dave had gifted me. 
arrow rest of cork topped with calf hide from an old "Kant Pinch" fingertab
Initially I tried heating in some reflex, and then again later some outer limb reflex, and both attempts, this slightly deflexed piece of yew, said no thanks. I finally agreed with it, and realized there was no need for it. Shoots great!

Ho, hum, another awesome bow by carson. What is meant by semi stacked? Going to echoes in time this year?

Ha ha aaron! Am I laying them on too thick? I am finally finishing up some bows that were in various stages for a long time. Feels good to be getting them wrapped up.

Semi-stacked...old term for a yew bow that was between a D style cross section, "stacked" and a rectangular cross section of a typical flatbow.   Bringing old back  ;D

I am planning on echoes. You?

Why yes, I am planning on attending Echoes In Time, Oregon's oldest and awesomeist ancestral skills festival. From July 20-24, Carson and I will be among the instructors at Champoeg State Park near Portland. Participants can learn skills like how to crank out awesome bows so fast that people stop noticing, hide tanning, knapping, beading, dyeing, felting, pottery, blacksmithing, fire by friction and dozens of other amazing classes taught by talented instructors. This year I am introducing a "guaranteed" non-returning boomerang class, in addition to my regular atl-atl and dart classes.
Early registration is already open... Google us today!

my oh my thats an amazing piece of art right there. i know i say it over and over but, man i love a simple selfbow. that yew is stunning and i praise all u gents who create such amazing bows with it. :)

Yes, as aaron mentioned, Echoes in Time is an awesome primitive skills gathering. Great place to pick up chicks who dig this stuff too ;) That is where I met my special lady.   :) :-*  8) :-X

Thanks Cody, I was really pleased how that narrow cane came out. It was a last second decision to go with that rather than leather. That was the first time trying out that narrow cane.
And Yes, DC that is some stain, sanded off. After wrapping with cane, I apply shellac to the cane, then sand, then shellac, then sand, then shellac then sand. On this one I tinted the second coat of shellac with some black leather dye.
Thank you sixstones. This yew is amazing stuff. I really need to build myself a good shooter out of it.

Carson, thank you again.  It was such a surprise to receive this. I think in that picture (of the old man) I was still in shock. haha I love this bow. Today I was invited out to walk a friend's beautiful 200 acre parcel in the foothills outside of Eugene. I brought the bow and some 50# spined arrows for some stumpin'.  It shot so well. The grip settles right into my hand. It is easy to hold on point through the shot. For 48# it really launches an arrow! My friend even said that it shoots like a heavier poundage bow.  It is a joy to shoot.  Echo yew bow and Wilderness arrows seem to make a great combo!
