Want to try my first R/D bow
« on: October 12, 2015, 09:31:06 pm »
This one will be out of a board of Osage. Next bow I make will come from a stave but already have the lumber for this and limited funds right now (somehow all my fun money is magically turning into pieces of wood). I want to try a R/D bow this time. What length should I go for? I would like to be between 50# and 60# at 27 inches. I read that you tiller a R/d bow a little different than flatbows is that correct? I am planning on using an Osage board backed with bamboo. Who has some good build alongs that I might reference?
Next up I will be looking for a good source for a sight unseen Osage stave which I know is risky but we will cross that path when I get there. Thanks!

62" to 64" long, 1 3/8" to 1 1/2"wide to mid limb and a straight taper to 3/8" tips. This is with a 4" handle with 1 1/2" to 2" long fades. Add 3" to 4" of Perry reflex at glue up.

I don't think a Perry reflex is a true R/D glue up.

If you have to pull the trigger, is it really archery?

That looks great! I'll give it a go when my bamboo gets here!
