2016 Primitive Archer Bow Trade ( incentives added)
« on: January 21, 2016, 02:21:25 pm »
I'll take the bull by the horns for those of you who are interested.

Since this will probably be the smallest PA bow trade and there will a lot of new and younger participants than normal I've decided to add a little icing on the cake this year.

I will build a sinew backed osage and all participants in this years trade will be entered with the bow going to the winner of the drawing.

Every month there will be a drawing for the new members that haven't participated before or have under 1 year under their belt.

I will donate either a stave, draw knife, Nicholson rasp, sinew, arrow shafts, or something related to bow building each month for those showing the most participation. This is not how many times you've posted but rather what you've posted. We want to see what you're working on. The more pictures you show and questions you ask the more you'll learn and assure that  you will likely send out a bow you can be proud of.

Anyone wanting to donate items to this cause will be a great help. I want to see this with at least if not more participants than the invitational

I'll be posting the sign up and rules shortly.

For all of you old timers on here I know you'll be glad to give advice and help these new guys out.
That's what it's all about.

Cheers ;)

Thank you Fred.

I am interested. But, it will depend on a number of factors as to if I actually join or not.

I had enough fun last year to last a few. I'm out.

I'd like to see it open to all members with as few restrictions as possible except for the "Not Allowed" list for those who have not honored their commitment in the past.

Also would rather it be a match up rather than a random drawing.

Participants wanting to build board bows would be matched with likewise.

Participants building laminate also matched likewise.

Members would be matched as closely as possible to those with similar experience and all entrants would have to post progress reports by at least 30 days into trade. Those that require help could get personal and private attention if so desired.

I don't plan on participating but would build a backup in lieu of problems arising.

Like I said I'm building plenty already but by summer I should have room for a backup bow juuust in case. Maybe I'll be available by the next invitational. I'm not running anything either, I'm still borrowing technology just to check up on things. Finding a roommate should get me back on track pretty soon.

That sounds cool, but a in the hat is better in my opinion because you could get a bow in a style that your not used to, and give someone something there not use to

A good old school trade just for the sake of learning and passing on knowledge to less experienced bow makers sounds good to me. Count me in please, if nobody is opposed to it. ;)

Also, I'm not worried about what type of bow, how "nice", or whether or not it's a stave or board bow. Ill be happy to get whatever, and from whoever!

Let's just have fun with it! I'll be starting mine tomorrow.

Now, that kinda talk appeals mightily to me, and though I hadn't even thought about it before, I'd be honored to participate in the same trade you are. And same thing for me, a bow from whomever, of any kind of bow, from any experience level. And I'll do my absolute best into the hat, in return.
I love it when a plan B comes together....

Thanks Planb. That's what it was all about when I first got into the bow trade however many years ago. Looking forward to it.
