Dont pull it any further then that dave.  What drsw weight are you at there?  I will mark up a picture showing where you should remove wood.  Have you made a tillering gizmo yet?  They will help u tremendously when just starting out.

The right limb is stiff about the first 6 " coming out of the fade.  The left limb is stiff aboit halfway out from the fades.  I would start on the left limb since it needs more attention.  If you pull it to that drawlength and set your gizmo about halfway out that limb till it just misses the limb it will show you the stiff spot halfway going in toward the fade.  Dont go too crazy on the fades....you can touch them up a little later if they need it.  The inner 6 " on the right limb needs some work with some minor stiff spots in the oiter portion of the limb.

I wish i lives in oklahoma id already be there giving you a hand.  Youll get it just take your time.  Make sure you are fkexing the limbs to that drawlength at least 40 times in between each wood removal to allow for the wood to adjust.

ajooter I disagree. That right limb is already too thin coming out of the fade. It's verging on collapse.

David, whatever you do don't use a rasp. Stick with a scraper and sandpaper until you get that straightened out. Don't remove any more wood until you get some hands on help.

I found many years ago that it is much easier and more rewarding working with those that don't know anything than those that know it all.

I agree the limb is thin but its not bending.  If he works on the left limb first maybe it will look a little different.

I think I'm going to start in the other cutout I have.

Do I need to back a red oak board, or can I get away with out it? I don't have any "primitive" backing material so I'll have to find something. It needs to be between 45 and 55 lbs.

Red oak will make a bow but its really not a great wood to use if you dont have a lot of experience.  Also the grain has to be near perfect on your board.

I think ajooter is correct in saying to work the left limb first and then see what the right limb is doing.  Currently the right has a weak spot just outside the fade that will need attention eventually.

Go slow and post some pics - still think you can get a bow out of it.
Enjoy the hunt!  Mitch

David what poundage and draw length are you going for? That area where the hinge is is really thin, you can still get a bow from it but probably a light weight one
failure is an option, everyone fails, it's how you handle it that matters.

1st off thanks Mitch for building this trade bow for me I'm honored. I've missed 1 day so far from shooting since it arrived at my door. Any ways I posted on the bow thread before I even thought and should've posted it on this thread so here's the pics. And let me tell you the finish on this bow is AWSOME in person the pics just don't give it justice.
