The heat caused cracks on the back ... I think due to to much moisture in wood

And my rookie mistake of burning the back .... I'm going to put this in the house and let it dry for a month then try to raw hide back it but I'm also start a new bow out of hhb

I'm still upset with myself but know I'll learn from this I still have other options with more stave's to... I think I'll brought out a new Osage stave and put it in the house for a while and work on it as well later

Stuckinthemud that wooden mallet thing in your pic is to cool what is it used for and what's the story behind it. I like old stuff like that.

Otter cool looking stave. Man I need a bandsaw I do every thing with nothing but hand tools. Makes it hard on the joints when your hatcheting bark and sap wood off not to mention getting the shape of the bow

Hey Otter,
      That Osage....could see the pic real clear but is the issue a check running up the middle of the limb?  If so that wont make much difference, I made bows for myself like that, super-glued the crak, clamped and they are still shooting today.....I know ya aint pleased from the bling point of view but with osage, ironwood, hard maple etc it should hurt performance. Assuming the check dont run off of the side.
     Would it be too much of a pain to take a couple more pics. If my old eyes didn't see right please disregard, sir.

I'm uploading pictures now and no they never tore out to the side what I'm upset the most is where I burnd the back side in one place... It was at a kink area rookie mistake

Had the same thing happen with a piece of osage and rich gave me the same advice....it's still together...I did rawhide back it as well.  Good luck man!
