Got a little bit more done today. I may have to back this one with deer rawhide. But I'm getting the twist out and putting reflex in it.  Hopefully going to get back at it tonight when the wife comes back from the churches lady's meeting.

Looking good Tim!  I'm hoping to be doing the same soon.  I think I got the alignment pretty well licked.  There's a little twist near the lower nock but nothing that I think will need fixing.

Let's get things straight.......here's the problem.

I tried to lay out the bow so the crook would be at the smallest part of the handle.

Time for a steam bath.

I wrap aluminum foil around my pot so the heat coming up around the pot doesn't scorch the wood.  I'll use different sized pots depending on the area I need to steam.  I steamed this 10 minutes......per Rich, since the handle was a bit over 1" think where it needed to bend.

Clamps and form are ready and waiting.

Captured!

Bent a bit past straight.

The big picture.  We'll see how well we did in the morning.

Timothy, ajooter Drewster, and all, lookin great!  :)
Rich good to hear you got wood ready!

I had a pleasant surprise today when a new digital bow scale arrived in the mailbox -- my old spring loaded one was reading low by 4 pounds. I checked it with the new scale and known weights. Never doubted it before, but it turns out every bow I've made so far (including the trade bow) is 4 pounds heavier draw than I thought. That means my trade bow might be on my guy's target after all. I can't tell yet because I'm still working on finish and won't be able to string it again and shoot it in  'til done with that. I  probably will still build another bow, just in case -- but I'm also psyched about this one!
I love it when a plan B comes together....

Timothy, reduce the stave down some more and it will bend easier. Those limbs are pretty thick.

I have gotten some work done over the weekend.  I backed the bow with whitetail rawhide.

I also cut nocks in the black walnut overlays.

I started taking wood off the belly and got it to a low brace.  I tried a long string but quit that because one limb has reflex and the other doesn't. Now that I have it at low brace I can see where I need to take wood away.  I definitely need to even the limbs up.

Cb guy that's looking good..even in the miniature view :D

Swampman....rawhide looks good and low brace isn't bad at all!

Thinned down one tip after getting my alignment.  Had an unexpected visitor in our bed upstairs so I had to relocate him bacj to his own bed and abandon  the other tip till tomorrow.

I received a nice stave in the mail today. I now have a couple to work with, so I am hopeful that I should be able to put something nice together for the trade. I have to finish Mr sons' Christmas bows before I can really start on the trade but I am thinking really hard about how to do this right.
