Scalloped both limbs.  I like the way it came out and my nice even bend is still there.  Im going to rawhide back the bow soon and then heat treat/add reflex to both limbs.

On a different note if the bow ends up failing at least I know my gf found a winning recipe in a cauliflower pizza with Italian sausage and ricotta.

Looking good ajooter. You should do your heat treating/reflexing BEFORE you rawhide back so that the heat doesnt cause the glue to let go.

Simson has done a lot of ammonia fuming to make some beautiful color, but I have also read it can also be used for putting some severe bends into wood, much more than could be accomplished with steam.  Has anyone tried ammonia for stubborn bends?  But I do like the idea to cut a slot and use a wedge, not quite as toxic :)

Loope just glued my tip overlays on tonight I will shape them up tomorrow then I have 2 bows I'm going to fume a BL the trade bow and a small static recurve Osage that I'm making for the moontree gathering I will take before and after pics.

Be honest guys I've always done it after...and never had a problem.  But thinking about it now it makes sense to do it the other way.

Some you guys are getting creative on how your steaming. I mean all I can say is your'll wife's must be gone shopping. I've got a good wife and all but that's where she would lay the law down.  So my 10$ Coleman stove from a yard sale keeps everybody happy in our kitchen. Keep up the good work

If all else fails i have cut an angled slot then steam it or use dry heat and drive a wedge in gently, then after it sets pop the wedge out, coat in epoxy and re install, do this where the cut will be covered by the grip wrap

clever, Mr Bub!

Was able to do a little tillering tonight.  Have it braced to about 5 1/2" or so.  Pulling to 18".  Pulling from 1 1/4" above center (right limb will be the top limb).

The limbs are currently about 1/2" or so in thickness and about 1 3/4" wide.

Hackberry - parallel to about mid limb then tapering to tips. 66" ntn.
Pics are at current brace, pulling to 18", and then immediately after brace.  Sorry for the blurry one.

Have a couple of questions:  How is the bend looking?  How "thin" can you make the limbs?  Should I narrow them at this point to reduce some weight or continue to remove from the belly?

Thanks.

Mitch
