Another farm fresh point
« on: May 12, 2016, 04:09:36 pm »
Pick up a stone from my field yesterday. I kind of like this stuff but it usually is to small or has to many inclusions. I managed to get a pretty nice point out of this one. There always a little more special to me when I find the stone on my farm. :)

They don't make it any easier to work, half the time I'd be better off getting rid of them but I do like when it works out to keep em. Don't know if you can see it but the one in the center has sparkly crystals in it. :o

Funny thing Zuma I've been picking up rocks from our fields since I was a little kid. Wish they all were like that one but I'm sure I put more than a few on the stone piles over the years.

Some of your rocks could be glacial till left there from
the last ice sheet. Stuff that came from further north of
your farm??

Yes Zuma I'm quite sure most of our rocks on or just below maybe several feet below surface are from the glaciers. There are limestone and shale layers as bedrock in some places but I agree most of our rock came from our northern neighbor Canada.
PS Indiana , Iowa got our top soil but we still have a good subsoil
