How did he do that???

Hi, in the April/May 2007 P.A. there is a item called "Flint and Feathers" by Mike Huston. Well in the photo's you can see his arrow's have a spiral effect to them. Can anyone tell me how you do that?? Photo's would help so much too.!!! Thanks for your time.

Looks like a flame effect. I've done both arrows and muzzle-loading rods that away. -ART B

Im like to add scorch marks on my hardwood shoot arrows for appearance sake. I do it after the shaft has been heat straightened and tempered.     Pat
