I have a hyper extensive elbow in my bow arm while shooting, when I started shooting the longbow my draw length shortened a bit. Now I  shoot with my shoulder locked in place, I still bruch my arm gaurd a little but its no big deal.

I have been teaching archery for alot of years so please don't gang up on me. Alot of people actually shoot a bow that is to long for them, If you are right handed and hold your bow in your left, like most of us would, try dropping your left shoulder a bit and bend your elbow a bit, by dropping your shoulder it helps you to hold your bow steader, and by bending your elbow, you avoid wrist slap and also lose some of the shock in your bow after the shot. Hope this helps.
