SkinnyD's Bull
« on: October 31, 2016, 12:35:03 pm »
Just got back from up from the north country Grande Prairie Ab. A week of moose hunting/ grouse shooting and camping with my son Dan.. We did manage to shoot and eat our share of ruffed grouse.. 7 years of waiting for a tag each.. Put on some miles through the mud and snow looking for a moose.. Saw sign of about each critter in the area deer, elk, bear and wolf.. Did manage to get a great sighting of a grizzly bear 20yds from the truck when we were coming back to camp after getting resupplied  4 1/2 - 5 foot high at the hump and a good 9' long didn't get a pic happened to fast.. Was gonna take a pic of his paw print in the muddy road.. But thinking he just ran in the bush I ain't getting out of the truck gotta go...........
Friday morning we are hunting a trail a fella gave us a tip.. Dan spots something in the alder bushes.. BULL comes outta his lips.. Raises gun KA-BOOM... All I can see is a bit of a paddle in the trees... It turned and came in the open stopped stood there for a second.. Dan's clicking in the second round, raises the rifle again pauses... The bull drops to his knees.. Turns to me looks and says gottem...
       Bull went 58 1/2'' wide
The rifle.. H&R buffalo classic 45-70  416 grain hollow point cast by Dan.. Loaded with 65 grn of FFg Goex
Now the work starts.. 3 1/2 hrs to get this beast into the truck.. well worth the effort.. Tender loins for supper tonight... As Pappy says "Life is good"
Thanks Leroy
