Memories-making day with grandkiddos
« on: January 13, 2017, 08:01:32 pm »
An event-filled day. Grandkids didn't have school.
Started on some arrows. Did bit of steam-bending on bow tips. Rasped some thickness off an in-process osage bow.
Spent late afternoon and early eve in "woods" behind house with grandkiddos ... making tarp shelter and campfire. Rylie nailed some "shelves to a tree under the shelter. All had fun and stayed warm. Oh, yeah . . . in midst of ice storm!
Good times and, hopefully, some memories made!
... alone in distant woods or fields, in unpretending sproutlands or pastures tracked by rabbits, even in a bleak and, to most, cheerless day .... .  I suppose that this value, in my case, is equivalent to what others get by churchgoing & prayer.  Hank Thoreau, 1857

Due to the miserable weather we are having, today provided opp for another "adventure".
Shortly after lunch (and eve/morn of more freezing rain) we made some fire starters in the kitchen. THEN they wanted to try 'em out!
UGHHHHH . . . it's wet/cold/icy out there! But what's a gramps to do?
First, we used bunch of limbs to block off openings to the hideout. Then walked/slid 3 blocks down the hill from the house to a creek and collected rocks for fire ring. Gettin' back up the hill was opportunity for someone to take embarrassing video!
Of course, then had to make fire. Glad we had those fire starters. Then roasted some marshmellows.
Ended day at Taco Bell.

Guarantee that made a memory or two. Good move, pops.
Only when the last tree has died and the last river has been poisoned and the last fish has been caught will we realize we cannot eat money.

That sounds like a great time Mike! Definitely some memories made there.  You are a good grandpa! Not to sure mine would have done that in this weather.

Sounds like a good time for Gramps to teach about hot toddy (chocolate) and other such delights, chili and staying out of the weather😀!  I bet the youngsters had a great time.

Thanks, fellas, for kind comments.
I grumble about having these 2 kidsters around all the time, but they understand I don't mean it.
