So, headed for mid 40's weight?  Think I'd perfect the tiller at brace first. If brace looks good, it doesn't usually look much different at full draw.  Draw weight is reduced by reducing the width of the bow. When you start reducing width, draw weight tumbles down really quickly.

Maybe he tried flexing the bow before it rehydrated?

Nope. The wood becomes brittle and the rings separate when it's reworked. Steam is the only way to bend

Also the woods so soft any attempt to bend without proper padding will create serious dents

I dented my osage last year. Gotta cushion it. I guess it gets soft when clamping just like it does when bending.

Del has a great method for removing clamp marks on Yew. Not sure how it works on other wood, but you heat up a spoon in boiling water then press the back against the dent to smooth it out. Worked like a charm!

I'll be starting a variety of designs but all will be recurved and likely sinewed as well if everything pans out.

Main goal is a  longer bow of basically Turkish shape with the same materials I used for the invitational last year.  IPE, Hickory, sinew and Elm siyahs.

Also have some well cured Elm for additional experimenting.

Pics soon.
