I just googled sweet gum tree, because I had never heard of one--but your picture doesn't look like the same thing to me.  Does the tree have little spiky seed balls?  Sweet gum appears to be native to the deep south.  Where do you live?

That leaf looks exactly like the maple leaf on the canadian flag.

Maple, possibly a sugar maple...like on the Canadian flag.  Sweet gum is palmate and has 5 fingers (points).

That leaf looks exactly like the maple leaf on the canadian flag.

It sure does jeff.
But the Canadian maple leaf is a conglomerate of all the Canadian species?
Could be a Norway maple??

I'm in KY. Those are pics of 4 different trees with similar leaves but some have different barks. No seed balls.

I go with maple. The one on the right of pick is a silver maple, the one on the left is unknown but a maple.
