Bowyer's Bible Volume 2-- Choctaw Bow Picture

56-1/4"long Osage
Handle is 1-7/16" wide, 7/8" thick
1/3rd up from handle is 1-5/8" wide, 3/4" thick
at nock 1" wide, 9/16" thick

3/4" thick doesn't seem right???

They do say thicker is quicker with osage. Do they give the draw weight?

From the unstrung side view it looks heavily deflexed, which I would imagine comes into play in this scenario.

Might have been carved from green wood, hence the deflex and the need to make it so thick in order to get a reasonable draw weight.

It may have been intentionally built to withstand long periods of being strung. My current hunting bow was built with some deflex for that very reason.

When are people going to stop imparting design techniques to bows of the past? lol  It really probably just has straight up set from either being shot in while a bit green, used in high humidity or left strung for years.
