Have a good shoot, and watch out for all those wild women in Wendover!  Most of the casinos have real good food and are willing to take your money!  Have fun!

Well Steve the Hungary folks have set a couple records so far. Me being here for a week seems to have dried my bows out to much. This morning l shot two arrows before my sting broke and she dry fired . Broke in the handle. My best with some borrowed arrows from Lynn I went 300 yds in selfbow primitive. Tried another bow with same arrows this afternoon and got one arrow off before that one blew. 290ish yards.  I am wrapping my last two bows with wet towels tonight . These two are what I thought would do the best here. Will shoot broadhead division Sunday. Maybe they will stay together. Arvin

Welcome to the high dry country!  Might have to try my bows at long range out on the prairie to see if the dry holds true.  We are about the same altitude as the salt flats and about as dry!

Today I had one guy ask you seam quiet today. Guess he's been around a few of us Texan. I replied just taking it all in! Lot to absorbe . Learning and then there's Larry and others telling of days gone by! Shooting arrows out of the most simple of bows to the machine bows. Everyone with one common goal.how far can we get that stick on out there . It's been fun watching and joining in on the archery side also.meeting great folks.  Shot old  35# recurve  today not no where close to a record. But you seem to be expected to shoot something each time. I think it's a the secret to get more arrow lookers and Fetchers . You can't wait to see how far it went.

A good experience then by the way I understand it.I would do more watching and listening myself too at an event like that.

Damn, I'd love to be there.
I know what you mean about trying to absorb it all... that's about the only time I'm quiet too :)

I will post results soon. Many of us have a long trip home and must go right back to work at our day-jobs, but I will have something posted by the end of today. I will comment that the level of performance and breaking of records this year was exceptional. The shooting conditions were pretty good this year and we were not fighting the chaotic and temperamental winds experienced at prior shoots.  For all rounds there was either no wind, or a VERY gentle wind present during the shooting. The ground surface was dry but temperatures very hot and exhausting.

Steve,
I came pretty close this year. The new bows performed flawlessly and there was little or no wind this year.  Unfortunately, I barely able to shoot one round for the entire competition. We were just too busy running the event, and no one was even able to find any of the arrows until late on Saturday. The surface of the ground was nice and dry this year, but it was like wet cement just below the surface, so the arrows were sinking quite deep compared to last year.  Of the arrows found (which were my longer practice arrows), not much more than the nocks remained above ground.  It was my personal best in official competition, but I felt there was still untapped potential.  I had two more inches of draw available on the bow, and shorter and better performing arrows ready to shoot over the next three rounds, but I am certain that they would have all been lost in the mud had I shot them.

I may plan a trip to the Alvord Dry lake bed in south eastern Oregon in a few weeks just to see what it can do.  The lakebed surface easily stops these arrows and they are much easier to find.  Results won't be official, but at least I will know what is possible with the current setup.

Arvin, it looks like you have been bit by a new bug. Good arrow making seems to be more of a challenge that many presume...

Hope to hear more about your trip to Alvord, Alan.
