Cedar tree question
« on: August 07, 2017, 05:39:33 pm »
Is cedar a cut and get staves stored right away type of wood.   The tree in question was cut and left in the ditch by the farmers field its got some pretty long larger diameter limbs and i'm probably mistaken but I thought cedar had a small degree of resistance to rot.

The heartwood is resistant, but the sapwood is not.  I would get those limbs and use them, but probably remove the sapwood and back the bows with sinew or rawhide depending on what you find when you get the bark off.  If you do leave the sapwood on, you might want to shellac it or otherwise seal it - I have had cedar check on the back otherwise.
