Different between siyah and recurve?
« on: September 03, 2017, 01:53:24 pm »
All things being equal, whats the fuctional difference between a siyah and a recurve?  Again, all things equal including string angle at full draw? The only difference I can see is more mass is concentrated at the tip by making the tip curve rather than straight and perhaps a recurve is a more smooth draw?

As I think more, a recurve may stress less at full draw because the string unwinds off the recurve, making for a longer string on the bow. Longer string means the wood needs to bend less to reach full draw. Lots of benefits there.  Such as less moving on the limbs, less set as a result of limbs moving less,  or perhaps same set but limbs can habe less mass and thats good.

But does it all wash out? Are the gains even measurable?

Are you sinewing the bow or does the spice have to be self supporting?

I'll bet you were just concerned with the shape. I was thinking that the splice probably adds weight and shortens the working limb.

Yeah dc, just concerned with shape and function of form.

I thought about this a lot when I was making one. I wondered if the change of shape of the curve on a force/draw graph would amount to much. Without some sophisticated measuring I don't think you would see much diff.

I don't think there is any difference at all if all things are equal.  We've heard all the differences in draw feel theories and opinions on another thread.

The fact that a siyah is a separate piece of material is due to the use of available materials  rather than functioning differently.
