Shortest bow
« on: August 27, 2017, 09:10:22 pm »
What is the shortest bow for hunting you have made?  What did it pull and what was it made from? Just wondering what I can do for a climbing stand. Thanks in advance/

You could probably get by with a 34-36" sinew backed osage with flipped tips and pull it 20" to a chest draw and have no problem getting an arrow through an average deer. Have it pull about 50#. That's the shortest I think you could get away with and maintain killing power. If you can get good with a chest draw. But this all depends on what draw length you intend to go to.

The important thing to consider is how accurate are you going to be with that short bow.
I started out with nothin' and I still got most of it left

Osage outlaw made a 24" bow and shot a frog with it😲

I made a 47", sinew backed osage, 56#@26".  I've hunted from tree stands with bows from 72" down. As long as you have prepped the stand area you can hunt with any size bow. Most of my hunting bows have been from 60" to 66" and never had trouble in a tree stand.

My favorite hunting bows are 54", give or take an inch or two. it's not on purpose, that's just what size most of my bows are.

Rather than compromise on your bow to hunt a stand you should compromise on the stand to hunt a bow you can shoot.

Never had a problem with 60/64 inch bow, just set my stands to accommodate the bow. I guess a shorter bow would be handy but I just don't shoot them as well. ;)

Well, if photobucket would cooperate, id show you a 48 inch recurve, pulling 70 pounds at 28 inches. I also made a 46 inch recurve that pulled 70 at 26. That one did start to splinter so its gonna get sinewed.

60" is about the shortest I like to go anymore, I just don't shoot the shorties well enough.

Shorter bows are a lot harder to shoot accurately than longer bows for most folks.
