Purple heart shafts?
« on: September 25, 2017, 01:14:18 pm »
The idea of using purple heart for shafts came up in another thread.  What shaft diameter will work to make arrows spined to 45 - 50 #?  Length would be 28" to 30".  Straight grain is necessary, I know.
Second part of question - is it practical?

I foreshafted a couple of Boo arrows with Purpleheart and they both broke. It could have been the target frame I hit though. I've hit the same target frame with straight Boo arrows and they stood it.

If you have to pull the trigger, is it really archery?

I've never seen them, that probably means its a no-no. PH is brittle and doesn't like to bend. I wouldn't risk my eyes or arm.
Only when the last tree has died and the last river has been poisoned and the last fish has been caught will we realize we cannot eat money.
