Goob's buck/ selfbow
« on: October 30, 2017, 04:14:07 am »
Got a good friend we all call Goob, anyone that come to the Classic may know him, he hangs out with the Horse thieving Baggett's. He built a bow at the Classic and was determined to kill a deer with it, that happened Friday, nice job Goob, way to hang in there. ;) :)

Thanks Pappy! This is my self bow challenge bow I made at the classic. I have not put it down since. The first 8 targets I had missed 4 and the Horse thieves were calling me Old 50%. I got the hang of it after that and like you said I was determined to take a deer with it. I have hunted hard this season and have had a few shots that I didn't take because everything just didn't feel right. Friday on the last day of our regular bow season this little 5 point walked in and I made a good shot on him at 11 yards. The wood arrow and an old bear razor head did the trick, double lunged him and he ran about 100 yards and piled up. It was a great feeling and a proud moment for me, I can't wait to get me another one with it. A huge thanks to Michael Wyatt for the osage stave, Pappy for his insight and helping me lay it out. To Bill Vanderwege and Will Harrison for all their help and advice. And last but not least Davey from New York that helps with the builds at the Self Bow Challenge at the classic. I cant say that I have ever caught his last name but he is a super fine person! I have already started another one and cant wait to get it shooting!

Nice shooting Goob.  I remember you working on that bow at the Classic.  It's nice to see you put it to good use.
I started out with nothin' and I still got most of it left

He didn't mention he made it to the final 6 in the shoot down at the IBO that was at Twin Oaks back in July.  He definitely got the hang of it.  Great job Goob. You did good.
