Three blind mice

Well actually three muskrats that I made into a quiver. I turned the bottom one inside out so the fur would protect the arrowheads and quite the rattling. I turned its head and tail fur out for effect and to hold my knives. I cut head off top rat and put it on bottom rats backside. I split the rats up the belly and sewed them the same width. I spiral sliced the third rat from nose to tail in about a 3/8" strip and then cut in three equal lengths and weaved them together for a strap. I think it turned out ok. A few little adjustments I might make and might sew it a little different next time but works good and I like the looks. I think the strap will look nicer when it gets more ware and softens more.

Nice work BJ.I once made a mounty style hat from 5 rats.Boy was that thing warm.

Thanks everyone I really wish I had more rat hides now. I'm starting to get pretty low on my supply. I've got a few more to tan but my nieghbor hit them pretty hard this year. He always heads south about this time year and I tried to call him last night. I left a message if he didn't sell his fur yet I'd be interested in buying some. Hoping to hear from him today. I might try to get some more in late January or February if the rats and weather cooperate. I like those heavy winter rats best anyway and you don't have the little ones then.

Ed I've always wanted  to make one of those troopers hats to. Also either mittens or a hand warmer. A lot of people fu fu muskrat but good heavy winter rat have very soft warm fur.

You bet BJ.Muskrat fur is very warm.Rather have them then mink any day.They're easy to tan too.Trouble is you need a bunch most times for larger projects.1 beaver though can fix your supply problems though for nice fur projects.

I do like beaver to. We don't have very many close to me and none on properties I trap. I did tan one I bought from my cousin last year. Has nice warm soft fur and a pretty though hide to.

Very cool Bj. I wish I had some rats to trap. I used to skate my trap line
around the lake I lived at as a kid in high school. About two and a half miles worth.
Plus I trapped several local ponds and swamps. I even got 50 cents a piece for them :'(
