Stripping wax and oil before adding Snake skin backing?

Hi all,
I’m going to be adding a snake skin backing to my bow (an Osage flat bow), and since I’ve sealed it with tung oil (6 coats) and wax (1 coat) I’m wondering if I need to sand it back before I glue the snake skin down?
And if I do, does it need to be a really thorough sand or just some 000 steel wool?

If I were you id sand it back down. What type of Tung oil did you use? Its not all pure tung oil unfortunately. What type of glue do you intend to use?

Best to get it really clean. I'd use some sort of solvent and then a strong soap scrub followed by a light sanding.

I've scuffed tru oil with steel wool on HHB and glued on with TBII with good luck. I've never used wax or tung oil before but would do like Pat said. I tried a test with scrap wood and scrap skin before I tried bow with tru oil.
