Juniper run

Couple decent branches, a small but straight tree, and a beautiful straight tree so big I had to split it right there, and could still barely carry the half-logs out.

The larger tree was one of a triple, and the others are also decent candidates for stave material, but I'm not greedy

I thought Taxus brevifolia was Pacific Yew, not a Juniper.

Anyways, nice haul either way.  :)

Is this Western Juniper? I can't see any heart wood differentiation like you'd normally see in most species of Juniper. Totally jealous...

Ya I'm grateful every day I wake up, so fortunate to live where I do. I've not only got plentiful yew in my area, but friends and family who are landowners who allow me to harvest bow wood. Juniper is available to me any time I want to drive a couple hours, and next I'll be focusing on vine maple. (Now that I know vine maple from big-leaf lol)

What area are you from? It sounds pretty similar to the area I live. I'm surrounded by miles of juniper and about 2 hours from yew and vine maple. Just cut the straightest juniper Easter weekend, 100" long with 2 knots and split as straight as I've ever seen.

I was supposed to come back in July for a month, but no funds for a ticket this year. I am building a home at the moment and most of my time and money is going into that. You locate any good juniper in CO?

Haven't had much chance to look, but I have had some problems with my hip that slowed me down for cruising timber.  Hopefully be able to get out next month.  Should be better weather, too!
