Bhutanese Style Archery Bow, First Attempt.
« on: July 09, 2018, 09:39:20 pm »
I have been making bows on and off for many years now, and I wanted to try to make a Bhutanese Style bow. I Finally finished my first attempt today, I love it.

So this is short, 44 inches nock to nock, made from Cayman Islands Bamboo, with 20lbs draw weight at 28 inches.

Had fun making this one.

Cheers

Nice little bow. Did you have any trouble locating usable bamboo (a Bhutan bow has been on my bucket list awhile). Thanks for posting.

It looks like your bamboo isn't fully dry, still some green showing.

Hi Guys, thanks for the replies, okay so largest diameter boo on island here is about 4 inch, not massive, but usable. Yes you are correct
the boo is still a little green, this was cut down about 3 weeks back, split and then worked on this week.

Great project, this was just a tester to see how it would turn out, I have thicker boo from 3 weeks back, so will be trying that out soon.

Cheers guys.

Hi Glis Glis,

Thanks for the info on the pellet bow, to be honest, never even seen one of those before, will be next on my project list.

As for using the back of the boo for the belly, and the inside of the boo for the back, well all the research I did on this bow type suggested that
the inside of the boo is best suited for the back and it's best for (Tension) and the outside best for the belly as it's best for (Compression).

To be honest when you play around with boo and flex it, it does feel that the above statement is true!

I am no expert though.
