"Freckles" An Elm and Osage Longbow.
« on: August 25, 2018, 02:31:27 pm »

Most people know me for my laminated bamboo bows made using the rope and wedge method for glue-up. So this is a little different style for me, because there is no bamboo in this bow. A customer recently came to do a weekend bow building seminar, and we made 2 bows like this. The one he took home, and this one I kept for me. It's 66 inches in length and 1 1/4 inches wide and has a draw wt. of 45lbs. at 28 inches. Made using osage as the belly wood and elm as the backing.

I called it "Freckles" because I stained the back of the bow grey and speckled it with ochre and black. The limb tips are mesquite from at trip to Sedona this spring.

The belly looked kind of plain, so I decorated it with a random pattern of black. The riser area has a rattan arrow pass with a black leather grip.

It's not the fastest bow by any means ,but draws nice and smooth, and very quiet. Got some bamboo arrows next to it.

Last photo for now. Hope you enjoyed the pics of this bow. It's hard to get good close-up photos using my tablet.

I really dig the unique finish work. Osage w/ an Elm backing sounds like a killer combo.

Thanks everyone for your compliments. I'll see if I can get someone to take a pic of the bow at full draw.

Sorry everyone for taking so long to get a full draw photo. It has just been a very busy week. So here it is, "Freckles at Full Draw".
