Flint Ridge points
« on: September 05, 2018, 01:51:34 pm »
Here are a few points I made at the ridge, None of these are ridge material :( Made my first Perkeomion out of a great pc of Normanskill, maybe a little overkill on the asymmetrical part of this point style, never seen a real one so I am copying out of a book, the other two are a pc of Burlington and  a Kay county. Hope ya like em and comments either way are welcome . Bob

Bob you nailed the Perk  :) except for one tiny distinctive detail.
Docking the sharp basal corners to 45 degrees. I have collected
many from Vara Cruz PA jasper along the Delaware River.
I think the asymmetry comes a lot from resharpening and use as knives.
Did you get the Normanskill up at Letchworth?

Don, I got the Normanskill at the ridge, I have only ever worked a few other pcs of this material and I was still pretty new so I only bought a few pcs because of earlier experience with tuff material. Sure wished I would have bought a few more it worked a lot better than earlier attempts :( :o Thanks for the tip on on angling the corners and I believe you are right about asymmetrical being from lots of reworked edges, Just about every example pics of Perkys are made of the yellow jasper, BJ, Steve and Eddy all you need to come to the Ridge is your sleeping bag and your credit card, got lots of room in the tent and we eat like kings. Oh maybe ya better  bring some earplugs, lots of snorers, but not me :o Bob
