Another Laburnum Question
« on: January 15, 2019, 12:58:58 pm »
How rot resistant is Laburnum heartwood? I have a couple of billets that have iffy sapwood. I'm toying with the idea of sinew backing it but I'm not sure if the heartwood is sound. It seems OK. If it was Yew I would trust it but I know squat about Laburnum.

Laburnum heartwood is poisenous and almost unrottable - that's why they use it for fences in Italy. For a labrunum bow a backing or sapwood is not required if you chase a ring and go for a normal length - the heartwood is not worse in tension than the sap. cheers
