knocked a few more keokuk

its been a slow month for knapping with turkey season and all, but the birds are slowing down so i took a break to break some rock, so here's a pair of keokuk points i knocked out this evening.  thanks for looking. - Ryan

hey i heard that flint is from oklahoma, does anyone know where it is naturally occuring?

TL   Those are very nice.  I worked on some points today and I'M having trouble with step fractures while precussion flakeing my spalls.  I seem to do well with noviculite,  but the keokuk is giving me problems,  I'm making my platforms right,  I just seem to get alot of step fractures. A'm I missing something or is it harder to work than noviculite.

thats funny because i usually have a lot of step fractures with novaculite  but the keokuk works well for me.  who knows, it may be our particualr styles or overall feel for the stone.

Nice Points TL.  I've never tried Keokuk but plan on giving it a try.  Is that blood on the left one?  :)  The other day I was working some Kay County.  I cleaned up my mess and let the dogs out to romp.  I guess I missed a few flakes and I notice bloody tracks on the shop floor.  One of the dogs had cut a pad on a small flake.  She's OK and now a part of the brother/sister hood.  ;D

nope its not blood, i dont cut myself very often if it is its just a tiny prick.  its just some dark color.
yeah, they are deer sized,   i dont weigh any of them, i like to keep it primitive.  if i would have to take a guess, i would say 100 - 120 grains  maybe less.- ryan
