Coatings for snakeskin backs

I gather some of you tru-oil them, and I'm interested to learn what other things people use.

Does anyone leave them bare with hide glue holding it on the back?

I'm thinking of dried only/untanned skins. I imagine the treatment for tanned skins would be different

I use Tru-Oil just like with all my bows. You can use wipe-on poly, spray pole or almost ant other bow finish. You do need to seal the skins, especially if you use hide glue.

I wipe a few coats of shellac on to smooth the skin sockets out and stick down any "pokeys", then spray with Helmsman.

spar varathene in satin finish  about 3- 5 coats... gut
