New project file kukuri, and new anvil
« on: July 21, 2019, 01:46:08 pm »
Just finished the forging of this kukuri, it a farriers rasp, forged on my new anvil object. 3/4 steel plate welded to a 1/4 plate on top of a 6x6 steel stand on 80lbs of quick crete. I may add another plate but it seems to work as is. I'll post pic as I go on this one.  (f)

This is a really great example of why a London pattern anvil is not necessary for blade smithing. You did a fabulous job with the shape. And you did it with a home built anvil. I actually wish I’d seen more examples like this before I bought my anvil. I would have had more money for other items in the shop.

And the kukri is a great blade to forge. Well done.

I agree! I was using a a cast iron anvil from that one store. It was fine but it really absorbed a lot of energy. Twice the work for the same result. This anvil however, I was able to forge the kukuri in about 2 and half hours. And thanks for the compliment sir (f). Here's the blade with the scale removed, and profiled

Here the blades been normalized 3 times, sanded up to 400 grit  and clay aka refractory cement applied to the spine. I will do the quench tonight. Hopefully everything goes well.
