"Little Anasazi" light weight sinew/yew bow
« on: May 13, 2019, 08:34:09 pm »
There is a series of bows that i'm working on currently which represents my introduction to the use of hide glue with sinew and its effects on wood.  This is one of the bows that the sinew tore the wood apart as it dried into reflex.  I'm happy to say that while it only made a light weight little bow, at least it made a bow.  I like to think that when the primitive ancestors built a bow that came in too light for duty(for whatever reason), perhaps they passed it down to a child to learn with.  I decided to use petroglyphs from the Anasazi people as inspiration for my art. )P(

Yep, love the artwork.

I get so jealous when I see artwork like that. It just works. It's like cave paintings. When I try it, it looks like a 3 year old scratched it on with a live chicken. Keep them coming, they're wonderful things.

Very nice!  We got to see some of the petroglyphs last summer in the Petrified National Forest.  Great reproductions!

Thank you all for the appreciation, gentlemen. :OK

Haha DC!! (lol)

Deerhunter, the limbs are same length it might be the camera angle from below.  Also that stiff spot on the lower limb(right out of the fade) i believe is partly due to my hand placement.

Thanks simk.  I used spar urethane over everything, with extra coats on the sinewed back.
