Primitive technology class for 4th graders
« on: June 04, 2019, 08:34:19 am »
I was asked to do a primitive technology class for the 4th graders where I work. I decided to talk to the kids about stone tools, bow drill fire, bows and arrows and brain tanning hides to make clothing. I am going to try to explain that mankind has always engineered solutions to meet our needs and just like back then, Today's technology will sometime in the future be viewed upon as "primitive". The class is on Wednesday morning. Everything packed up and ready to go. Wish me luck!

Good luck with the presentation!  In thesepianese "break a leg"! >:D.  Be sure to let the kids know they would be learning those skills at their age!

You are willing to do this. You are packed and sound fired up. It will be a great class for the kids. Let us  know how it goes.

If you guys never hear from me again, You know what happened. (Just kidding) The Kids where I work are all very respectful and great kids. I have worked in the School / Church Maintenance Department for over 7 years and have never had to fix any vandalism. Sure things break but nothing is broken on purpose. Should be fun today as these kids have not been exposed to any of the tings we all consider common knowledge among our circles of Friends.

Good karma for you Brian,
I'm sure few kids in America are getting this kind of teaching in our education system today.

I was surprised to learn that they put up a post on the Schools web page with pictures from the class. The only thing I can not figure out is who the old looking fat guy in the pictures is. It can’t be me. I am still young and fit (at least in my mind).  It was a bunch of fun and I would encourage others if the opportunity arises to do something similar

+2!  Every once in a while our club gets calls for a presentation, and several organizations put on rendezvous' that draw a good number of spectators.  On the other hand, this area is pretty close to the fur trade years and the Wild West.

GlisGlis,
I am reluctant to post any of the pictures that were taken as there are students in most of them. I will see if there are any without kids faces.
