New backstop
« on: June 27, 2019, 08:12:35 pm »
A while back I found a section of conveyor belt on the side of the interstate.  That stuff makes a good backstop so I brought it home.  I finally got around to hanging it up and making a new spot to shoot in the yard.  I can get about 40 yards from the front of the garage and even longer if the cars aren't parked close.  It's big enough for a couple of targets.  That's one of those really big deer targets.

My plan for next year is to build a more permanent structure with sides and a roof to keep the rain off of the targets.  Nature is providing some resources.  A large osage tree is falling in my yard next to where I want to build it.  It's dropping about 1' per week.  It's been leaning forever but with all the rain this summer the ground can't hold the roots any longer.  The bark looks twisted so it will go to the saw mill this winter and get cut into boards that I will use for the siding of the target shed.

Neat idea!  Almost free lumber!  Might even have some posts in there!

Just don't hit it with an arrow, unless you don't want your points back :)

Only when the last tree has died and the last river has been poisoned and the last fish has been caught will we realize we cannot eat money.

I would rig your belts so they are hanging and can swing backwards when you hit one with an arrow for a little give. Belts are rough on arrows, just like hitting a wall.

They have some swing to them when an arrow hits them.

I haven't lost any points yet Pearly  ;)

Hmmmm . . . my arrows didn't cause any swingin'.    :o
... alone in distant woods or fields, in unpretending sproutlands or pastures tracked by rabbits, even in a bleak and, to most, cheerless day .... .  I suppose that this value, in my case, is equivalent to what others get by churchgoing & prayer.  Hank Thoreau, 1857
